Allen Bellman, Robert Pope Returns To Grand Rapids Comic-Con

 The Grand Rapids Comic-Con is pleased to announce that comic book guests Allen Bellman and Robert Pope have both agreed to return to the annual comic book and popular arts event which will be held at the DeltaPlex in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on November 21-23.

Allen Bellman is a Golden Age comic artist who drew the backgrounds for Syd Shores’ Captain America in 1942, and eventually worked on titles such as The  Patriot, The Destroyer, The Human Torch, All Winners Comics, Marvel Mystery, Sub  Mariner Comics, Young Allies and so much more.  Bellman  also contributed to pre-Code horror, crime, war and western tales for  Atlas.

Robert Pope is the DC Comics go-to guy for Cartoon Network characters. Robert is a penciller on  Scooby-Doo, Looney Tunes, Batman The Brave and The Bold and many others.  Robert is also freelancing for the Peanuts franchise for Boom Comics as well as the Power Puff Girls for IDW.

“Allen and Robert were popular guests last October,” said owner and co-event coordinator Mark Hodges, “and bringing both of them back is a service to the 3500 people who were not able to get into the show last time. It is a pleasure and a privilege to have both of them back at the comic-con.”

Stop-Motion Animator Justin Kohn To Attend Grand Rapids Comic-Con

Justin KohnThe Grand Rapids Comic-Con will have world-known stop-motion animator Justin Kohn as a guest at their 2014 show which will be held at the DeltaPlex in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on November 21-23.

Justin is a world-known expert in the animation art of three-dimensional effects including stop-motion animation. His talents have been sought after by Hollywood for over 25 years and have been in the forefront of many classic animated films.

Justin has been involved with three-dimensional animated effects work since 1979. In the 80s and 90s, he ran a small animation armature manufacturing and effects rigging studio in Los Angeles along with partner Master Machinist Peter J Marinello.

Justin received national attention for his stop-motion animation work in the 1988 sci-fi cult classic Killer Klowns From Outer Space. His most famous work appeared in two classic animation films: the Jack Skellington sleigh scenes in the 1993 holiday classic The Nightmare Before Christmas as well as being the lead animator in the 2009 creep fest Coraline.

Justin’s other 3-D animation film credits include Robocop 2, James And the Giant Peach, Monkeybone, The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou, Antz, and Puppet Master. Justin also has a wide range of television credits as well including “The Bite-Sized Adventures Of Sam Sandwich” for the Disney Channel and “Beforel Orel: Trust” for Adult Swim.

Justin’s newest project are the animation effects in the upcoming fantasy Anomalisa starring Jennifer Jason Leigh and David Thewlis.

In addition to signing autographs, Justin will also be bringing to the Grand Rapids Comic-Con a museum of authentic character props from his work which will be displayed in a museum-style format. He will also give a presentation on 3-D animation effects.

Green Brain Comics proudly announces the return of local comic creator Jay Fosgitt on Saturday, February 15th from noon until 3pm to celebrate the release of the Bodie Troll graphic novel.

Jay Fosgitt’s Bodie Troll is a creator-owned, all-ages comic set in the mythic village of Hagadorn and featuring a grumpy little troll named Bodie. While he aspires to be big and scary, he’s actually cute and cuddly, which confounds his attempts every time.

Green Brain Comics will have copies of the Bodie Troll graphic novel available for sale and Jay Fosgitt would be happy to personalize a copy for you or your loved one. Additionally a limited supply of single issues of the Bodie Troll comic will be available. Stan Sakai Announced as Keynote Speaker at MSU Comics Forum 2014

The 2014 MSU Comics Forum will take place on Feb. 21st and 22nd. The keynote address will occur on the first evening, Friday, February 21st, 2014, while the panel discussions and artist alley will happen the following day, Saturday, February 22nd, 2014. The location will be in Snyder/Phillips Hall on the campus of Michigan State University (the same locations as the past few years).

This year the MSU Comics Forum is proud to announce that award-winning comics creator, Stan Sakai, will be our guest of honor and keynote speaker on Friday, Feb 21st, 2014. Sakai is most known for his long-running anthropomorphic animal series, Usagi Yojimbo, which explores the culture and traditions of 17th century feudal Japan and has been published in 12 languages. Recently, Sakai completed an ambitious historical mini-series, 47 Ronin, a comics adaptation of Japan’s best known tale with publisher and writer, Mike Richardson. Sakai’s work has garnered him numerous Eisner Awards and in 2011 the Japanese American National Museum in Los Angeles, CA presented a retrospective of his 30-year career.

Grand Rapids Comic-Con Announces First Guests

The Grand Rapids Comic-Con is please to announce that comic book guest Livio Ramondelli and e-comics legend Mark Mekkes will be guests at the annual comic book and popular arts event which will be held at the DeltaPlex in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on November 21-23.

Livio Ramondelli is currently drawing various projects for IDW Publishing. His credits include Transformers: Autocracy and Monstrosity (with Blizzard creative director Chris Metzen and Flint Dille), Transformers: Chaos, Robots in Disguise, as well as covers for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, G.I. Joe, 30 Days of Night and others. He has also provided Star Wars covers for Dark Horse Comics, and Battlestar Galactica covers for Dynamite Entertainment.

Mark Mekkes is a cartoonist, illustrator and writer that has turned his efforts to the world of web comics. Mark is the creator of the groundbreaking e-comics “Zortic” and “Saucer Seekers”, as well as the role playing card game Steam Spy.

“We want to create the best comic and popular arts event in the Midwest,” said owner and co-event coordinator Mark Hodges, “and adding Livio and Mark are a good step for us. We desire to bring to Grand Rapids the best guests available in our field, and we feel that Livio and Mark fit the bill well. We are happy that they have decided to attend our event as guests.”
