Hero Board member George Pérez of Avengers and Teen Titans fame will be at the Hero Initiative booth, #1501-#1502 all weekend. This will be the ONLY place you’ll be able to get autographs and sketches from George! He’ll be joined all weekend by artist Ron Frenz (Amazing Spider-ManSpider-Girl) exclusively at the Hero booth!

Saturday only, writer Tom DeFalco (Fantastic FourSpider-Girl) and artist Brett Breeding (Superman) will also be on hand at the Hero booth to help raise money for comic creators in medical and financial need.

And perhaps most importantly, Incredible Hulk and Avengers artistic legend Sal Buscema will be at the Hero Initiative booth on Saturday only from 1-4 p.m. Sal is 77 years old, and does very few public appearances. This will likely be his last. Sal will be signing autographs for $5 each or 3 for $10. This may be your last chance to get Sal to sign your books, so bring ’em on!

In addition, creators across the con floor will be taking donations for signatures at their own booths! We thank these artists and hope you stop and contribute to our cause! These creators include:

Mark Buckingham, Jim Calafiore, Cliff Chiang, Amanda Conner, Chris Giarrusso, Joe Hill, Roger Landridge, Joe Linsner, Laura Martin, Ron Marz, Jimmy Palmiotti. Andrew Pepoy, Brian Pulido, Tom Raney, Craig Rousseau, Chris Samnee, Alex Saviuk, Joe Staton, Bill Willingham, Chrissie Zullo, and many more.

And of course, the highlight of Saturday evening is the Harvey Awards, featuring the Hero Initiative Lifetime Achievement Award and the Dick Giordano Humanitarian of the Year Award. Stop by to see who wins the hardware this year!

You can still buy your tickets at www.baltimorecomiccon.com for the weekend! See you there!

The Baltimore Comic-Con is excited to announce the addition of comic writer and novelist, Joe Hill, courtesy of IDW Publishing, to the growing list of creators for this year’s show. In addition, IDW will also be exhibiting at the show and hosting a panel as well!

Joe Hill published his first book, a collection of short stories entitled 20th Century Ghosts, in 2005 and followed that up in 2007 with Heart-Shaped Box, his first full-length novel. But Hill is best known among comic fans for his work on IDW’s groundbreaking horror series, Locke & Key, which launched in 2008. The book, which is a series of mini-series, is coming to an end with October’s Alpha #2, and has been optioned for film by Universal Studios.

In addition to Locke & Key, Hill is also the author of the Kodiak, The Cape, The Cape: 1969, Wraith: Welcome to Christmasland, and Thumbprint from IDW. “We couldn’t be happier to have Joe and IDW attending the show and the Harvey Awards this year,” said Marc Nathan, show promoter of the Baltimore Comic-Con. “Joe’s contribution to the horror genre in comics and in literature has left a lasting effect on both mediums, and IDW has continued to publish some of the best work in comics month-in and month-out for nearly 15 years! Mark Bagley Added to Baltimore Comic Con 2013

mb_ff1

Press Release:

The Baltimore Comic-Con is happy to announce that artist Mark Bagley will be joining the growing list of Marvel Comics creators attending this year’s show. The show will be taking place the weekend of September 7-8, 2013 at the Baltimore Convention Center.

A long-time Marvel Comics artist, Mark Bagley got his break in comics after winning the Marvel Try-out Book Contest in 1983. Starting out working on the Visionaries and New Universe lines of books, Bagley eventually landed the art duties for New Warriors. He stayed on the book for the first 25 issues before transitioning to take over the art for Amazing Spider-Man.

After a 64-issue run on Amazing Spider-Man, Bagley went on to have a 50-issue run on Thunderbolts and a career-defining run on Ultimate Spider-Man – where he and collaborator, Brian Michael Bendis, broke the record for longest continuous run of any creative team with 111 issues (previously held by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby at 103 issues).

In 2008, Bagley signed a 3-year exclusive contract with DC Comics, but returned to Marvel in 2011 and reunited with Bendis to work on the “Death of Spider-Man” arc in Ultimate Spider-Man and Brilliant for Marvel’s Icon Imprint. He is currently drawing Marvel NOW!’s Fantastic Four.

“We are absolutely thrilled to finally have Mark joining us for the show this year,” said Marc Nathan, show promoter of the Baltimore Comic-Con. “Mark’s work has really helped to define the look and feel of Marvel Comics for more than 20 years, and having him at the show adds so much depth to an already talent-filled guest list!”

Bagley joins our previously announced guests, including: Josh Adams (Doctor Who); Neal Adams (First X-Men); Art Baltazar (Aw Yeah Comics!, Tiny Titans); Brian Bolland (Dial H); Harold Buchholz (Archie Comics); Mark Buckingham (Fables); Sal Buscema (Amazing Spider-Man); Frank Cammuso (Knights of the Lunch Table, Otto’s Orange Day); Jimmy Cheung (Avengers vs. X-Men); Frank Cho (Savage Wolverine); Steve Conley (Bloop); Amanda Conner (Before Watchmen: Silk Spectre); Jamie and Tyler Cosley (Cody the Cavalier, Ninja Squirrel); J.M. DeMatteis (Phantom Stranger); David Finch (Justice League of America); Franco (Aw Yeah Comics!, Tiny Titans); John Gallagher (Buzzboy, Roboy Red); Zack Giallongo (Broxo); Chris Giarrusso (G-Man); Keith Giffen (Masters of the Universe); Jimmy Gownley (Amelia Rules!, The Dumbest Idea Ever!); Joe Hill (Locke and Key); Jason Horn (Ninjasaur); Adam Hughes (Before Watchmen: Dr. Manhattan); Denis Kitchen (The Oddly Compelling Art of Denis Kitchen); Barry Kitson (Empire); Roger Langridge (Popeye); Paul Levitz (World’s Finest); Kevin Maguire (World’s Finest); Mike Maihack (Cleopatra in Space); Mark Mariano (Happyloo); Dave McDonald (Hamster Sam); Mark McKenna (Star Wars, Banana Tail); Jason Mewes (Jay and Silent Bob’s Super Groovy Cartoon Movie); Mike Mignola (Hellboy In Hell); Jamar Nicholas (Leon: Protector of the Playground); Chris O>Matic (The Chris O>Matic Show!); Jimmy Palmiotti (Batwing); Dan Parent (Archie, Veronica, Kevin Keller); George Perez (World’s Finest); David Petersen (Mouse Guard); Joe Prado (Earth 2); Ivan Reis (Aquaman); Dave Roman – Saturday only (Astronaut Academy, Teen Boat); Chris Samnee (Daredevil); Jeff Schultz (Archie, Jughead); Louise Simonson (X-Factor); Walt Simonson (The Mighty Thor); Kevin Smith (Batman: The Widening Gyre); Allison Sohn (sketch card artist); Frank Stack (My Cancer Year); Bobby Timony (Night Owls, Detectobot); Mark Waid (Indestructible Hulk), and Bill Willingham (Fables).

MD – Batman: Black & White Signing

na_bbwMeet comic legend Neal Adams at Beyond Comics on Thursday, September 5, 2013 from 4:00pm until 7:00pm before he appears at the Baltimore Comic Con. Get signatures for half the convention price. You can buy prints, books, sketches and all kinds of awesome Adams merchandise. First signature is free.

Who is Neal Adams?

Neal Adams is a towering figure in the world of comic book creation and art. Neal has had legendary ‘runs’ on Batman, X-Men, Green Lantern-Green Arrow and Deadman. Adams rescued Batman from the campy nostalgia of the television show, and re-fitted him in his present incarnation as an “Avenger of the Night.” When people say ‘modern Batman,’ they mean Neal Adams’ Batman. His run on Batman led directly to the new, more realistic incarnation in “Batman Returns” movie, which featured the character he created, Ras Al Ghul.

Crusading comic book artist/writer, is hardly the group of words you would expect to hear together in one phrase. Neal Adams name usually follows such headlines as…“Battles DC Comics and Warner Communications for recognition and a settlement for Superman creators, Jerry Seigel and Joe Shuster”, and “Relevant comic books take the stage” : ”Overpopulation”, “Drug addiction and bringing down the comics code”, “Company towns”, and “Railroading judges”, are grist for Adams mill. The first black comic book superhero, created by Adams, in an uphill fight to gain recognition for minorities in comic books in America, has become featured player in The Justice League Saturday morning cartoon show.

In his spare time, Adams has convinced publishers to return original art to its creators, improve the standards of comic book production, force comic book publishers to pay royalties to its creators…All this while crusading ceaselessly against the work-made-for-hire provision in the copyright law. A provision in the 1978 book-length copyright law, that in two sentences, strips creators as creators, reporters, actors, scriptwriters, and feature writers, of their rights.

In addition to his comic book genius, Neal has launched a highly successful production company – Continuity Studios – which produces the popular Nasonex Bee campaign. Neal is also responsible for the design of the popular Terminator, T2 4-D ride, and the Spider-Man Rides at Universal Studios.

His hobbies, theoretical physics and comparative religions. An uncommon man in a popular culture world.
