CO – Après Le Déluge: The Buddy Cole Monologues

Comedian Scott Thompson appears at the Oriental Theater on Monday, April 9, 2018 at 7:00 PM. Get tickets here…

Lounge lizard Buddy Cole from Kids in the Hall makes a return to the limelight in an evening of humorous monologues from the period the show went off the air in 1995 to the present day.

SCOTT THOMPSON:
Well known to fans as a member of the sketch comedy troupe The Kids in the Hall, Scott Thompson is anything but your average comedic talent. After Lorne Michaels discovered them in the late eighties, The Kids in the Hall created a groundbreaking television series which ran from 1989 to 1995 on CBC in Canada and on HBO and CBS in the United States. After the Kids left television in 1995, Scott and the boys went on to write and star in their own feature film, the cult favorite Brain Candy. Thompson appeared as a regular for three years on Garry Shandling’s revolutionary comedy series The Larry Sanders Show as Brian, the assistant to Hank Kingsley. In this period and afterwards, he made numerous guest appearances on various talk shows such as Politically Incorrect, The Late Show with David Letterman, and was a regular fixture on Late Night with Conan O’Brien.

Thompson along with Paul Bellini, is the author of Buddy Babylon: The Autobiography of Buddy Cole, a hilarious memoir of one of Thompson’s most famous characters, bon vivant Buddy Cole. He has appeared in such feature films as Ron Ronnie Run, The Pacifier, and Mickey Blue Eyes and such television series as Hannibal, Reno 911!, Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Carpoolers, The Odd Squad, Man Seeking Woman, Touched by an Angel, and Degrassi High. He has also worked on various animation projects, as the titular character in the popular children’s television series Roboroach, and in Aqua Teen Hunger Force, The Simpsons, and American Dad.

Lamont “U-God” Hawkins, one of the founding members of Wu-Tang Clan, appears at Tattered Cover Book Store on Friday, March 16th at 7:00 PM to discuss and sign his memoir RAW: MY JOURNEY INTO THE WU-TANG, the explosive, never-before-told story behind the historic rise of hip-hop royalty.

Remarkably, none of the founding members have told their story–until now. Here, for the first time, the quiet one speaks. U-God’s unforgettable first-person account of his journey, from the streets of Brooklyn to some of the biggest stages around the world, is not only thoroughly affecting, unfiltered, and explosive but also captures, in vivid detail, the making of one of the greatest acts in American music history.

CO – Strange Fruit Vol. II Signing

Joel Christian Gill appears at Tattered Cover Book Store on Thursday, February 8, 2018 at 7:00 PM to discuss and sign Strange Fruit, Volume II: More Uncelebrated Narratives from Black History, a collection of stories from early African American history that represent the oddity of success in the face of great adversity. In this book, Gill offers historical and cultural commentary on heroes whose stories are not often found in history books, such as Cathay Williams, the only known female Buffalo Soldier, and Eugene Bullard, a fighter pilot who flew for France during World War I.

Like all legends, people fade away, but not before leaving an incredible legacy. Strange Fruit, Volume II: More Uncelebrated Narratives from Black History is a collection of stories from early African American history that represent the oddity of success in the face of great adversity. Each of the eight illustrated chapters chronicles an uncelebrated African American hero or event. Joel Christian Gill offers historical and cultural commentary on heroes whose stories are not often found in history books, such as Cathay Williams, the only known female Buffalo Soldier, and Eugene Bullard, a fighter pilot who flew for France during World War I. These beautifully illustrated stories offer a refreshing look at remarkable African Americans.

Joel Christian Gill is the Chair of Foundations at the New Hampshire Institute of Art and recipient of the 2016 Boston University College of Fine Arts Alumni Award. He wrote the words and drew the pictures in Strange Fruit, Volume I: Uncelebrated Narratives from Black History, Bass Reeves: Tales of the Talented Tenth, no. 1, and Bessie Stringfield: Tales of the Talented Tenth, no. 2. Joel received his MFA from Boston University and a BA from Roanoke College. His secret lair is behind a secret panel in the kitchen of his house (sold separately) in New Boston, New Hampshire.
