Legendary KISS co-founder Gene Simmons visits Changing Hands Bookstore on Monday October 27th at 7:00 PM to sign his manifesto for business success, based on both lucrative outside ventures and his experiences in one of the most successful rock groups of all time.
Long before he first took the stage, Gene Simmons had a clear-cut operating plan for the business of KISS. Over the past forty years, KISS has sold more than 100 million CDs and DVDs worldwide and manages 5,000 licensed merchandise items — from comic books and coffins to action figures and video games. Simmons’s lucrative ventures also include two hit reality shows, a professional sports team, a restaurant chain, and a record label. In Me, Inc., Simmons gives aspiring entrepreneurs the critical tools they need to succeed. He discusses how to build a solid business strategy, harness the countless tools available in the digital age, educate yourself, and be the architect for the business entity that is you. Inspired by The Art of War, Me, Inc. is organized around thirteen specific, easy-to-understand principles for success — “The Art of More” — drawn from Simmons’s own triumphs and failures. In the late 1970s and early ’80s, some of the most inventive and inspired alternative comics found a place on shelves. ElfQuest offered a unique vision of black and white fantasy, while Nexus gave readers a version of the superhero idea more rooted in science fiction than capes and cowls. Meanwhile, Groo the Wanderer took a humorous take on the sword and sorcery genre, popularized by the likes of Conan the Barbarian in the previous decade. Over 30 years later, we pay tribute to some of comics’ longest-running ongoing collaborations for a discussion with the creators themselves! Join Richard and Wendy Pini (ElfQuest), Mike Baron (Nexus), and Mark Evanier (Groo) as they share the secrets to the success of a few of comics’ most revered story lines!
