UK – Three Rooms in Valerie’s Head Launch Party

Writer David Gaffney and artist Dan Berry appear at Gosh Comics to celebrate the launch of their graphic novel Three Rooms in Valerie’s Head on Thursday, the 22nd of February at 7:00 till 9:00 PM!

Three Rooms in Valerie’s Head is “British comedy blended with universal regret, this darkly funny graphic novel uses surreal and beautiful visions to explore the ways we remain haunted by our ex-lovers. Valerie has a rich interior life. Serially unlucky in love, to feel better she imagines that her previous boyfriends are dead and that their bodies are kept downstairs in the cellar in a strange, mummified state. Every day she brings them upstairs and speaks to them about what went wrong. What follows is a series of peculiar and funny, and sometimes disturbing short tales about inept lovers, weird obsessions, and socially malfunctioning men who repeatedly fail to build a relationship with poor Valerie.”

David Gaffney’s funny, sad, strange, and very short fiction has been entertaining and moving us since his first collection, Sawn-Off Tales was published in 2006. He’s since written all sorts of things, from novels to narratives in the form of cat posters. Dan Berry’s gorgeous watercoloured comics and illustrations have been a favourite for years, so we’re pleased as punch to have their first collaboration launched here with us on the 22nd of February, at 7 pm and we hope you can join us!

UK – Kim Reaper: Grim Beginnings Signing

Sarah Graley signs KIM REAPER: GRIM BEGINNINGS at Forbidden Planet Birmingham on Saturday 17th February from 1:00 – 2:00 PM.

In KIM REAPER, Kim works at a part-time job to make ends meet. Unlike most university students, Kim’s job is pretty dang cool: she’s a grim reaper, tasked with guiding souls into the afterlife.

Like most university students, Becka has a super intense unrequited crush. Unlike most university students, Becka’s crush is on a beautiful gothic angel that frequents the underworld. Of course, she doesn’t know that. Unaware of the ghoulish drama she’s about to step into, Becka finally gathers up the courage to ask Kim on a date!

But when she falls into a ghostly portal and interrupts Kim at her job, she sets off a chain of events that will pit the two of them against angry cat-dads, vengeful zombies, and perhaps even the underworld itself. But if they work together, they just might make it… and maybe even get a kiss in the bargain.

Sarah Graley is a UK based comic artist and writer, who wrote and drew the Rick and Morty comic mini series Lil’ Poopy Superstar, and creates the comic series Kim Reaper for Oni Press.

She is also known for her popular diary comic series Our Super Adventure, and is currently working on her graphic novel Glitch for Graphix/Scholastic, pencilled for release late 2018.

UK – Artemis Signing

Join internationally best-selling author ANDY WEIR signing his brand new title ARTEMIS at the Forbidden Planet London Megastore on Friday 12th January from 6:00 – 7:00 pm!

Jazz Bashara is a criminal.

Life in the lunar city of Artemis is tough if you’re not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you’ve got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent. Everything changes when Jazz is offered a score too lucrative to turn down – if she can plan the perfect crime – and survive it…

And in a city on the moon, there’s only one rule for criminals: don’t get caught.

ANDY WEIR built a career as a software engineer until the success of The Martian allowed him to write full-time. He is a lifelong space nerd and devoted hobbyist of subjects such as orbital mechanics and the history of manned space flight. The Martian was a Sunday Times and New York Times bestseller and went on to become a major motion picture from 20th Century Fox, directed by Ridley Scott and starring Matt Damon. Film rights to Artemis have already been sold to 20th Century Fox.
