pc-fpuk

Join Paul Cornell launching ‘The Severed Streets’ at the Forbidden Planet London Megastore on Wednesday 21st May from 6 – 7pm!

Detective Inspector James Quill and his wily squad of supernatural crime-busters are coming to terms with their new-found second sight. They have a handle on the ghosts and ghouls, but the rest of London’s supernatural underworld is still unknown. When a seemingly invisible murderer kills a top cabinet minister in unusual circumstances, the team knows this is a case for them.

Attempts to learn more about this mysterious figure are hampered when their chief detective goes missing, and a core member of their team becomes more focussed on bringing her father back to life than finding their missing detective. Soon the team seems to be falling apart as each member pursues their own interests. Throw in an ancient and vengeful spirit and a Rat King, and their mission soon becomes a trip to Hell – literally.

UK – O’Barr & Golden Signing

golden_obarr_1s

Press Release:

Orbital Comics is very pleased to announce James O’Barr (creator of The Crow), legendary Marvel artist Michael Golden (Avengers, G.I. Joe, Micronauts) and writer/editor/colorist Renee Witterstaetter will be signing in-store on Wednesday May 14 from 5pm. This is a rare opportunity to meet these industry legends and pick up some signed books and prints, so don’t miss out on what is sure to be a great night!

Then, once the store closes at 7:30 pm, we’ll have Michael Golden hosting a very special Dynamic Figure Drawing Class for ticketed customers – so if you’d like to take part then secure your place NOW. You can purchase tickets online at the link or pay for them in-store. Places are extremely limited, so act now if you plan on attending this one-off event!

James O’Barr is the award-winning creator of The Crow, and the writer of two hit series from IDW Publishing, entitled Curare and Skinning The Wolves. He likes to lament that he was born in a trailer in Detroit just in time to see Marilyn Monroe and John Kennedy die, but claims no responsibility for either. He spent his first seven years in an orphanage and foster care where he spent most of his time drawing. When he was adopted he brought along his crayons and has been using them ever since. While stationed in Berlin, in the late 70′s he created The Crow as an attempt to deal with the death of his fiance at the hands of a drunk driver. It took nearly ten years to finish and no publisher was interested in it (“too gloomy, too confusing”) until, on a whim, Caliber published the first issue in 1989. It is currently the best selling independent graphic novel of all time at over one million copies sold. In 1993 his book was adapted into the cult film of the same name starring Brandon Lee. He would like you to know that nearly all of the money made from the film was donated to children’s charities and he had nothing to do with the subsequent three sequels or TV show, but he will be a consultant on the new Crow movie that goes into production this year. He has worked for every major publisher. In Italy 1995, he won the Academy Award of comics, the Yellow Kid award for best storyteller.
Recently returned from a record breaking signing tour for the Italian Edition of The Crow, his most recent book is a new sketchbook from Eva Ink Publishing James O’Barr: Uncoffined.

Artist/writer/creator Michael Golden, is a legend in the comic book industry, but one that has never stopped adding to his legacy as a storytelling professional. Co-creator of The X-Men‘s Rogue, Spartan X, and Bucky O’Hare, Michael is known worldwide for his groundbreaking work on The ‘Nam, Micronauts, G.I. Joe Yearbook, and Dr. Strange, among MUCH more, and is counted as one of the best cover designers and illustrators in the business. Golden’s work can be seen on covers from Spawn, Nightwing, Iron Man, Heroes For Hire, Exiles, Demon’s Regret, Spider-man, Vampirella, Captain American, The Punisher to The Hulk, as well as numerous other titles, for about every company out there. It’s no wonder that Golden has been one of the most influential creators around for the last several decades: “… unless you can actually draw yourself, it is very difficult to understand the exact mind-blowing impossibility of what he does,” said writer/artist Larry Hama, of Golden’s work. Michael has served as an Editor at DC Comics as well as Senior Art Director at Marvel Comics, and has worked on scores of movie production projects, some currently in development. He has recently been awarded with Lifetime Achievement Awards from The University of Maryland Eastern Shore and the Lille Arts Festival.

Renee Witterstaetter is the author of Excess: The Art of Michael Golden, Tex: The Art of Mark Texeira, the critically acclaimed Nick Cardy: The Artist at War, Dying for Action: The Life & Films of Jackie Chan, Kerry & the Scary Things, Nick Cardy: Wit-Lash, and much more. Renee began the comic phase of her career working on such titles as Superman at DC Comics and Silver Surfer, Conan The Barbarian and Conan Saga at Marvel, then spearheading the reintroduction of She-Hulk at Marvel. She then moved over to Topps Comics where she was the editor on The X-Files, Jurassic Park, Xena & Hercules and, co-creating with artist Michael Golden, the successful series, Spartan X. Her newest books include Santa Confidential, by Hagar the Horrible artist Chris Browne and the sketchbook James O’Barr: Uncoffined. In addition, Renee has also been the colorist on hundreds of comics from The Avengers to Spider-man to Captain America among many, many more. Film work was a natural progression for Renee after this storytelling immersion in comics, and she has since worked on dozens of music videos for Madonna, Seal, Ben Harper and Usher, as well as the feature movies Crime Story, Rush Hour 2, and Red Dragon, among others. She is the President of Little Eva Ink Publishing and is also currently working in artist management via Eva Ink Artist Group.

Join Alison Sampson, Rob Ball, and Matt Taylor signing Forbidden Planet’s very own Variant Cover of Image Comics’ Genesis one-shot, all happening on Saturday 19th April from 1 – 2pm!

Offering an exclusive cover by Ian McQue, Genesis takes us on a trippy journey of creation and destruction as one man finds himself with the ability to manifest anything by thinking it-only to learn that with seemingly unlimited power comes unstoppable terror.

Alison Sampson is a London based architect and illustrator. She has been responsible for leading and contributing to a number of large and familiar, widely published and award-winning projects across the capital, working with the Richard Rogers Partnership, Will Alsop, Dr John Allen and John McAslan & Partners, amongst others. This is her debut full length comic, hopefully the first of many.

Robert Ball is a London based designer and illustrator who has worked for the likes of BBC, Sky, Sony, Wired Magazine, The National Gallery and the V&A. His debut comic Winter’s Knight: Day One won the 2013 Best British Comic award, the second part of which he really should be getting on with.

He spends his days channelling Americana, the great outdoors and 50s comic book art into illustrations for the likes of The New Yorker, Mondo, Burton Snowboards and many others. His first published comic work will be April’s Zero #7 and there is lots more to come…
