Anime NYC 2018 Dates Announced & Tickets On Sale

Tickets for Anime NYC 2018 Powered By Crunchyroll, New York’s Japanese pop culture and anime convention, are now on sale for the con’s return on November 16-18, 2018 after the inaugural celebration welcomed over 20,000 fans to New York’s Javits Center this past November. 2018 tickets are available at www.animenyc.com/tickets and range from $40-50 for single day passes, full Weekend passes for $65, and Mega passes enabling exclusive opportunities, early access, and more for $295. 

Anime NYC 2018 will build on the exciting programming, special guests, and more that attendees of the inaugural show enjoyed, with plans for next year’s convention to take over additional halls in the Javits Center to bring together even more fans – looking to double 2017’s 250,000+ square feet. This year, fans took part in events including the Fullmetal Alchemist liveaction film’s US premiereGundam Thunderbolt: Bandit Flower concert and premiere, Anime Diva Night powered by Anisong World Matsuri, and the NYC Ramen Summit, celebrating with 200 publishers and exhibitors from across the Japanese pop culture space including Crunchyroll, Aniplex, Bandai Namco, Bandai Visual, Bluefin, Kinokuniya, Kodansha, Sentai Filmworks, SUNRISE, Vertical, VIZ Media, and Yen Press. Plans are already in the works for even more in 2018.

In twelve-year-old Giacomo’s Renaissance-inspired world, art is powerful, dangerous, and outlawed. A few artists possess Geniuses, birdlike creatures that are the living embodiment of an artist’s creative spirit. Those caught with one face a punishment akin to death, so when Giacomo discovers he has a Genius, he knows he’s in serious trouble.

Michael Dante DiMartino is a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design and the co-creator of the award-winning animated Nickelodeon series Avatar: The Last Airbender and its sequel, The Legend of Korra. He lives in Los Angeles with his wife. The Rebel Genius series is his debut prose work.

SF – Dr. Katz: The Audio Files

Jonathan Katz, Paul Feig, Kate Micucci, Scott Thompson, Baron Vaughn, and Fred Willard appear at the Marines Memorial Theatre on Friday January 19, 2018 at 7:30 PM.

Dr. Katz: The Audio Files launched on Audible this year as the audio-only reboot to the popular animated series from the 1990s. The audio show features guests like Ted Danson, Sarah Silverman, Ray Romano and “Weird Al” Yankovic. Audible is bringing back the series for a second season in 2018, featuring Jonathan Katz, his assistant, Laura (played by Laura Silverman), and new guest patients every episode.

Jonathan Katz is an Emmy-award winning comedian, writer and actor best known for the sitcom he created, wrote and voiced, “Dr. Katz, Professional Therapist”. The animated show aired on Comedy Central from 1995 to 2002. Over the course of its six seasons, the show was critically acclaimed, winning an Emmy, a Peabody and a slew of other awards. Katz is currently collaborating with the playwright, David Mamet.

Asaka Makes First US Appearance at Anime Boston 2018

Anime Boston, the largest anime convention in New England, has announced its second Japanese guest of honor. Asaka will be performing at Anime Boston at the Hynes Convention Center, Boston, Mass, on March 30 through April 1, 2018.

Asaka is an up-and-coming singer-songwriter with a powerful voice and even more powerful talent. She was born in Japan in 1999 but lived in the United States as a child. When she moved back to Japan at eight years old, she was immediately drawn to Japanese anime and in particular their soundtracks. It was her dream to become a professional singer and record her own anime theme song. Asaka devoted herself to learning all she could about music, even participating in and winning several karaoke contests.

Only eighteen years old, she’s already taking the music industry by storm. Her debut single “Open Your Eyes” has over a million views on YouTube and was chosen to be the ending theme for the anime Occultic;Nine. Since her debut in October 2016, Asaka has released two other hit singles: “Edelweiss” which was used as the ending song of A Centaur’s Life and “Play the Game” which was used as the opening for the visual novel for Occultic;Nine and also was ranked 47th on the Oricon charts.

“We are so excited to be able to present Asaka at Anime Boston. She’s one of the brightest young stars in music today and Anime Boston is the best place to introduce her to her American fans!” said Victor Lee, Convention Chairman.

She also has her own radio program and has made several television & radio appearances. In her spare time, Asaka loves doing karaoke, watching anime, and designing nails and cosplay.

This is her first U.S. appearance.
