Diesel, A Bookstore in Brentwood welcomes Liz Climo to the store to participate in a panel discussion and sign her new book, The Little World of Liz Climo, on Thursday, October 2nd at 7pm.

Joining Liz will be a panel of illustrators and animators: Madeleine Flores, webcomic creator of Help Us Great Warrior!; Monica Ray, author of Phuzzy Comics and storyboard artist for Nickelodeon’s upcoming show, Bad Seeds; and Annie award winner, Giancarlo Volpe who has worked on various TV shows including, Avatar: The Last Airbender and Star Wars: The Clone Wars. This panel will be moderated by director, editor and comic aficionado, Kurt Mattila.

Artist Liz Climo has charmed her fans with her comic world of whimsical animal characters, where everyone from grizzly bears, dinosaurs, rabbits, and anteaters grapple with everyday life with wit and humor. Through her comics, we discover that an armadillo can dress for Halloween, a dinosaur can be a loving parent … and a rhino can squeeze orange juice! This new collection features more than 100 of her comics, starring her beloved characters in all kinds of funny situations, from celebrating holidays to helping friends.

Liz Climo is a character artist for The Simpsons and has worked on The Lebrons and Seth Macfarlane’s Cavalcade of Cartoon Comedy. She also the author of Le Petit Monde de Liz, a comic collection published in France as well as a forthcoming children’s book. She lives in Los Angeles.

Santa Monica Public Library is honored to welcome acclaimed actor and children’s literacy advocate LeVar Burton for the launch of his first-ever picture book, published by Reading Rainbow. The Rhino Who Swallowed a Storm is a story designed for parents and kids to read together when facing stressful or difficult situations. The book emphasizes the helpers and positives in a child’s world and the value in having friends and family work together to get through tough times. A book sale and signing follows Mr. Burton’s talk.

This program is free and open to all ages, but is a ticketed event. Free tickets for auditorium seating will be released one hour prior to the program. No reservations available. The acclaimed artist of smash hit manga (graphic novel) series such as DEATH NOTE, BAKUMAN。, HIKARU NO GO, RALΩGRAD and ALL YOU NEED IS KILL will appear at several events during the 2014 New York Comic Con. He will make an exclusive signing appearance at the Javits Convention Center on Thursday Takeshi Obata will also make a pair of additional appearances around New York as part of ReedPOP’s New York Super Week on Friday October 10th at Kinokuniya Book Store and Saturday October 11th at Barnes & Noble.

Fans are invited to stop by the VIZ Media Booth (#1944) on Thursday October 9th for details and to secure advance tickets for the exclusive New York Comic Con Takeshi Obata signing, taking place the same day at 7:30pm at the Javits Center. Signing tickets will be distributed on a first come/first served basis promptly at 1:00 pm and again at 4:30pm. (There will be no advance line-up until 15 minutes before ticket time).
