Hideyuki Tomioka & Katsuyuki Sumizawa Appear at Anime Boston 2018

Press Release:

Anime Boston, the largest anime convention in New England, announced its third round of Japanese guests of honor today.  Senior Managing Director of SUNRISE Inc. Hideyuki Tomioka and Screenwriter Katsuyuki Sumizawa will be appearing at Anime Boston at the Hynes Convention Center, Boston, Mass, on March 30 through April 1, 2018.

Hideyuki Tomioka joined SUNRISE to help with the production of Fang of the Sun Dougram as a part-timer.

He was the producer for many popular shows, including Mobile Suit Gundam Wing, After War Gundam X, INUYASHA, and STEAMBOY.

“We are extremely pleased to host Hideyuki Tomioka at Anime Boston. His credits include some of my personal favorites, such as Inuyasha, Turn A Gundam, and Steamboy,” said Victor Lee, Convention Chairman.  “However, for Anime Boston, his most important credit may be Mobile Suit Gundam Wing, since our first convention, in 2003, featured the English voice actors of all five Gundam pilots!”

Katsuyuki Sumizawa is an anime screenwriter and novelist. He has worked on various shows, including Mobile Suit Gundam Wing, Mobile Suit Gundam The Origin, Dragonball Z, Sailor Moon, Yu Yu Hakusho, Macross 7, Inuyasha, and Naruto.  He also penned the novel Mobile Suit Gundam Wing Frozen Teardrop.

Victor Lee added, “Katsuyuki Sumizawa has written scripts for some of the top titles over the last 20 years, including Dragonball Z, Mobile Suit Gundam Wing, Inuyasha, Macross 7, Naruto and, of course, Sailor Moon. His writing has influenced how we see anime in the West. Getting the opportunity to ask about the creative process is always a treat!”

Previously announced guests include FLOW, Asaka, Greg Ayres, and Monica Rial.

CA – Words & Music

Author Jonathan Lethem reading “Vivian Relf” from Cartoons and Men, along with Ben Arthur and Cindy Lee Berryhill performing their responses at Vroman’s Bookstore on Sunday, February 4, 2018 at 3:00 PM.

About Jonathan Lethem:
Jonathan Lethem is an American novelist, essayist, and short story writer. His first novel, Gun, with Occasional Music, a genre work that mixed elements of science fiction and detective fiction, was published in 1994. It was followed by three more science fiction novels. In 1999, Lethem published Motherless Brooklyn, a National Book Critics Circle Award-winning novel that achieved mainstream success. In 2003, he published The Fortress of Solitude, which became a New York Times Best Seller. In 2005, he received a MacArthur Fellowship.

About Ben Arthur:
Ben Arthur’s eighth album is American Castles, which continues Ben’s exploration of “answer songs” and art-inspired inspiration and collaboration. “Young Dead” was co-written with author George Saunders, while other songs on the album were written in response to stories by Joyce Carol Oates, Patricia Lockwood, and Susan Orlean. Ben is also a producer and the host of the Emmy-nominated television series SongCraft Presents, in which Ben writes and records a song with a featured artist over the course of a day. Ben has released seven previous albums and two novels.

About Cindy Lee Berryhill:
Cindy Lee Berryhill marks an affecting, intimate, and dazzling return to record-making with The Adventurist,
an ambitious song cycle released by Omnivore Recordings on March 10. Encinitas, Calif.-based singer-songwriter-guitarist Berryhill describes her elegantly crafted set of new original compositions – her first release since 2007’s Beloved Stranger — as a collection of “tone poems about the experiential feeling of enlovement.” Written and recorded over the course of the last five years, co-produced by Berryhill with David Schwartz, Sheldon Gomberg, Ben Moore, and Lee Ray.

The album was inspired by Berryhill’s life with her late husband Paul Williams. Founder of the first modern American rock magazine Crawdaddy in 1966 and a prolific writer and critic, Williams married Berryhill in 1997. Two years earlier, Williams suffered a traumatic brain injury in a bicycling accident. Following the early onset of dementia in 2004 and deepening medical challenges, he was placed in full-time care in 2009; he died in March 2013.

Berryhill says, “I vowed to write Paul a song cycle. Not songs of sadness or the despair I’d felt, but songs that reflected the love I had for him, and a remembering back to the enormous flood of feelings we’d had on meeting and courting. I wanted to write songs that felt like they’d come from that muse-driven place we feel when we fall in love.”

PA – DMC Signing

Press Release:

Amalgam Comics is humbled and excited to welcome hip-hop pioneer and Darryl Makes Comics publisher Darryl “DMC” McDaniels for a discussion & signing of his graphic novel series DMC on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at 1:00 PM!

DJ Hvn Lee will provide the soundtrack of the day spinning classic Run DMC & Len Webb of Black Tribbles will moderate our discussion with DMC about all things comic & hip-hop.

Don’t miss your chance to meet a living legend!

Darryl “DMC” McDaniels, a pioneer, icon, and founding member of the legendary rap group RUN DMC, brought his love for comics full circle with the creation of his very own independent publishing house called Darryl Makes Comics.

Already a hero to his millions of fans around the world, DMC’s accomplishments read like a laundry list of musical and cultural accolades: Grammy nominated musician, Emmy winning life story, multi-platinum recording artist, 2009 Rock-N-Roll Hall of Fame inductee and rap/rock pioneer who influenced music the first time he touched a mic.

But before co-founding Run-DMC, DMC grew up reading comics and developed a passion for them. “When I started with Run-DMC, I was a nervous little nerdy kid,” says DMC. “I didn’t want to get up in front of a crowd and rhyme; but what gave me confidence, out there on stage was pretending that I was the Hulk on the microphone.”

In 2014 DMC’s childhood passion came to fruition when he along with his Editor in Chief Edgardo Miranda-Rodriguez and Senior Editor Riggs Morales teamed up with some prominent fixtures in the comic book world to craft his first 48 page graphic novel ; 100% authentic, unapologetic, indie, comic book, under the imprint, Darryl Makes Comics.

The comic, set in hip hop’s revolutionary era of the 80’s, features DMC as a superhero fighting for justice in an alternate universe. Wild Style-inspired graffiti covers every surface of this world as the true grit of pre-Giuliani New York is captured among the pages of this graphic novel.

FREE & open to the public. The discussion will begin promptly at 1pm. Books will be available for sale.
