Born in Russia and raised in Canada, Svetlana Chmakova earned an Eisner Award nomination in 2007 for her original English-language manga Dramacon. A recipient of the Joe Shuster Comics for Kids Award and the Dwayne McDuffie Award for Kids’ Comics, her résumé also includes the four-volume Nightschool (2009–10) and adaptations of James Patterson’s Witch & Wizard novels. Her more recent work—Awkward (which netted her a second Eisner nomination), Brave, and the recently released Crush—delves into the clumsy and unpredictable world known as middle school. Learn more about her at svetlania.com.

About Crush: Jorge seems to have it all together. He’s big enough that nobody really messes with him, but he’s also a genuinely sweet guy with a solid, reliable group of friends. The only time he ever really feels off his game is when he crosses paths with a certain girl. But when the group dynamic among the boys starts to shift, will Jorge be able to balance what his friends expect of him versus what he actually wants?
