DC – Islandborn Signing

Author Junot Díaz appears at Sidwell Friends Meeting House on Thursday, March 15, 2018 from 6:30 to 8:00 PM.

Junot Díaz, Pulitzer Prize winner and National Book Award finalist, brings his magic to the world of children’s books with Islandborn. In this celebration of diversity and imagination, Lola’s family helps her to remember the island of her origins for a class assignment. The memories are sometimes dreadful, sometimes wondrous and joyful. With Díaz’s trademark vibrancy enlivened by Leo Espinosa’s effervescent illustrations, Lola’s story is full of the sights, sounds, hurricanes, and magic of the Dominican Republic. Díaz says children’s books are “our first passports into the world,” and this book is one young girl’s first exuberant voyage into her family’s courageous history. (All ages)

Ticket options include purchase of either an English edition (Islandborn) or Spanish edition (Lola) of Diaz’s picture book for signing at the event.
