Cartoonist Julie Houts presents Literally Me with editor Lauren Spiegel at Word Bookstore on Tuesday, October 24th at 7:00 PM. Tickets available at the link…
Literally Me is the first collection from Julie Houts, designer and “Instagram’s favorite illustrator” (Vogue). It is a collection of darkly humorous illustrated essays expanding upon her popular social media dispatches, lampooning modern female identity in the social media age. She hilariously deconstructs “the creating, and the unraveling, of modern female identity, specifically in the young, urban, and stylish sphere” (Vogue). In 2016, Julie Houts’ Instagram following exploded, and she became a media darling. Her witty, darkly humorous illustrations have won her a diverse following, from college coeds to city sophisticates to A-list celebrities. The book will have 75% new material.
Julie Houts is an illustrator and former womenswear designer at J. Crew. She was raised in Fort Wayne, IN and St. Louis, MO before studying at The School of the Art Institute in Chicago and Parsons School of Design in New York. Her work has been featured in Vogue, Nylon, Man Repeller, Stylebop, Huffington Post, and Refinery29. She lives in Brooklyn, NY.
Lauren Spiegel began her publishing career at Touchstone in 2006. She’s published the #1 New York Times bestsellers, Hyperbole and a Half by Allie Brosh; Scrappy Little Nobody by Anna Kendrick; You’re NEver Weird on the Internet (Almost) by Felicia Day and TRUST NO AUNTY by Maria Qamar.
