Book POP! Signing Tour

Hope Nicholson, Sam Maggs, and Ashley Poston appear on a signing tour where they will discuss the rising influence of women in nerd culture, comics, STEM, and fandom.

In Hope Nicholson’s The Spectacular Sisterhood of Superwomen, you’ll meet the most fascinating exemplars of the powerful, compelling, entertaining, and heroic female characters who’ve populated comic books from the very beginning. In Wonder Women, Sam Maggs, author of The Fangirl’s Guide to the Galaxy, tells the stories of the brilliant, brainy, and totally rad women in history who broke barriers as scientists, engineers, mathematicians, adventurers, and inventors. Part romance, part love letter to nerd culture, and all totally adorbs, Ashley Poston’s Geekerella is a fairy tale for anyone who believes in the magic of fandom. Nicholson, Maggs, and Poston will discuss female representation in comics and video games.

IL – Imagine Wanting Only This Signing

Press Release:

Women & Children First Bookstore welcomes Kristen Radtke and Lucy Knisley on Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at 7:30 PM for a conversation about Kristen’s new graphic memoir, IMAGINE WANTING ONLY THIS.

When Kristen Radtke was in college, the sudden death of a beloved uncle and the sight of an abandoned mining town after his funeral marked the beginning moments of a lifelong fascination with ruins and with people and places left behind. Over time, this fascination deepened until it triggered a journey around the world in search of ruined places. Now, in this genre-smashing graphic memoir, she leads us through deserted cities in the American Midwest, an Icelandic town buried in volcanic ash, islands in the Philippines, New York City, and the delicate passageways of the human heart. A narrative that is at once factual, historical, and personal, Radtke’s words and images ask why are we here, and what will we leave behind?

Kristen Radtke is the managing editor of Sarabande Books and the film and video editor of TriQuarterly magazine. She lives in New York.

Lucy Knisley is the author and illustrator of beloved graphic novels about memory, identity, food, and family. Her Alex Award-winning graphic novel, Relish: My Life in the Kitchen is a New York Times bestseller, and her travelogues (French Milk, An Age of License, and Displacement) have been lauded by critics and fans. Her most recent graphic memoir is Something New: Tales from a Makeshift Bride. She lives and works in Chicago.
