Local comic book artist Anthony Summey appears at Planet Comics on Wednesday June 22nd at 2:00 PM to sign copies of the recently released anthology, Flintlock, from UK publisher, Time Bomb Comics. Flintlock is Time Bomb Comics first ongoing series featuring adventure tales set in the 18th century. Anthony’s artwork appears in the lead feature, “Lady Flintlock”, about a female highwayman who is targeting a select group of influential gentry in her nightly escapades. As the book was originally published in the UK, there will be only a limited number released to the US market and Planet Comics will be one of the select stores to carry the book.
Anthony is an internationally published sequential artist and graduate of Savannah College of Art and Design with an MFA degree in Sequential Art. That’s right he got a Master’s degree on how to draw comic books. Anthony is originally from the small southern town of Walhalla, SC, where he would drive his grade school teachers crazy with doodles of super heroes all over his homework assignments. Needless to say he has always loved to draw.
He currently works as a Freelance Artist. His previous work has appeared mostly in small press horror anthologies including Time Bomb Comics’ annual horror anthology, Bomb Scares. It is a genre which he is quite familiar. Anthony even did his graduate thesis on the 1970’s horror anthologies of Warren. However, he is currently enamored by the action comic strip work of Alex Raymond, Al Williamson and Hal Foster. Besides his work with Time Bomb Comics, Anthony is currently working on a number of other sequential art projects.
