SF – LOVF Launch Party

000000000000-lovf

Join Mission: Comics & Art in welcoming back Jesse Reklaw and his new book LOVF: An Illustrated Vision Quest of a Man Losing His Mind on Saturday, July 30 at 7:00 PM. Multimedia performance with Jesse Reklaw, Fred (BLACK SHEEP) Noland, and Geoff (TRACK RABBIT) Vasile.

“LOVF is the sketchbook companion of a man literally losing his mind. Homeless and broke after giving all his stuff to punk rock heroin dealers, he ends up off his meds and on a secret quest from Portland to Brooklyn, DC, LA, San Francisco, and Seattle. He throws himself into every experience like it was his last; like it should be his last. With wild energy, promiscuity, criminal activity, and substance abuse, this becomes a full-blown manic episode… all of it captured by LOVF, the trusty sidekick. Jammed with cartoons, mad schemes, psychedelic portraits, and notes from the road, LOVF is a travel journal, and a mirror of the post-traumatic dreamworld its author can’t escape from. After losing his house, his job, his partner, and his best friend, he is triple-diagnosed with bipolar mood disorder, PTSD, and crippling chronic pain. As a self-professed over-achiever, he made sure things only got worse from there. Getting beat up in the street, running from the law, getting dragged out of a creek and into a mental hospital… it’s a Kerouacian meltdown of cross-hatching, spattered marker, crayons, glitter, tape, nail polish, white-out, fingerpainting, rain, wine, stickers, and word balloons, like the found diary of a homeless crazyman, turned into a comic book.”

MA – Chroma Art Show

000000000000-chroma-artshow

Andrew Houle, John Cardinal, and Michael Crockett open an art show at the Montserrat Gallery on Saturday, July 30, 2016 at 5:30 PM

Press Release:

From the pages of “Chroma,” an art annual created by three Montserrat alum, a commitment was formed to showcase emerging and established artists in a vibrant and varied publication. With each volume filling a need to define the creative community in New England and giving a voice to the artists residing here.

While the co-founders (Andrew Houle ’00, John Cardinal ’99, and Michael Crockett ’97) shared overlapping years attending Montserrat, a passion for illustration, comic book culture and painting formed a bond that would later bring them to form Tryptic Press and later publish “Chroma” vol. 1.

Now together releasing “Chroma” vol. 3 & vol. 4 a thriving and supportive collective of artists has formed. Creating an uncommon home within the “Chroma Family”, bridging abstract painters, fashion photography, comic book illustrators, community based art programs, printmakers, sound-makers and even robot-makers.

With this 50 person group exhibition all points come together in some cases meeting for the very first time in person and on the walls, combining all four current volumes of artists. Creating new collaborations, new relationships, new directions for what has always been right in our own backyard; a New England Art Awakening.

Toonseum Looking for Star Trek Original Art

000000000000-star-trek-50

Press Release:

The Toonseum, Pittsburgh’s Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art, is currently in the process of organizing an exhibit of Star Trek original comic art. Art collectors have been instrumental in the success of prior exhibits at the ToonSeum, including last year’s Avengers: 50 Years of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes and the current Captain America: 75 Years of the Sentinel of Liberty exhibits, and the hope is that this will again prove true with Star Trek.

The Toonseum is thus reaching out to any collectors who might be willing and kind of enough to loan the Pittsburgh-based museum some amazing Star Trek pages to be placed on display to the public. The exhibit will run from October 28, 2016, until January 15, 2017.

If you think that you would like to loan some Star Trek art and/or have questions about the process, you can e-mail Board Member, Treasurer and Exhibit Curator Anthony Letizia (anthonyletizia@geekpittsburgh.com). Anthony would be happy to answer any questions you might have about transport, insurance, museum security and can provide references from collectors who have loaned the Toonseum art for previous exhibits. You can also check out the museum at the website.

Thank you for your consideration.
