Variety is the Spice of the ANS Sci-Fi and Comic Con 2014
Variety is the Spice of the ANS Sci-Fi & Comic Con!
On May 10, 2014, the ANS Sci-Fi & Comic Con returns in full force for the third annual charity event benefiting Archbishop Neale School. This year, after selling out of vendor tables in less than 24 hours, the organizers are proud to have more vendors and artists than ever before. New areas of the school are being opened to accommodate the unceasing demand for participation in the event.
Event organizer Tom Boone says, “After selling out over 75 tables, it was terrible to turn away so many fantastic, creative people who wanted not only to share their art, but also wanted to support the mission of our event, which is to showcase our wonderful school and students.” To address this, the dealer area will extend from the gymnasium into the hallways throughout the school, providing a lengthy expanse of comics, art and collectibles for fans and collectors to enjoy. (A list of participating artists and vendors is attached.)
Archbishop Neale School Principal Peggy Howard adds, “We are grateful to every vendor and visitor who takes time out of their busy lives to participate in and attend our event. We plan to have more displays by our students this year from our award-winning STEM and VEX teams and art club as well as examples of the great work our students do every day at Archbishop Neale School.”
The event has grown every year since 2012 when over 300 attendees visited the show. Last year’s event, which featured Marvel Comics artist Frank Cho, attracted over 400 people. The focus this year is on variety. In addition to many dealers selling comics, trading cards, action figures, toys and collectibles, the event features a stellar array of artists working in many different disciplines. Comic artists, painters, paper craft, decoupage, geek couture, self-published and independent comic book artists and fan groups make up the varied and wide tapestry of dealers at the ANS Sci-Fi & Comic Con.
Boone recommends families and collectors plan to spend the entire day at the event. The Art Contest for Kids will be returning allowing kids a chance to earn “ANS Bucks” to spend at dealer and artist tables throughout the event. For collectors, the Silent Auction will return featuring unique collectibles and autographed items. Plus, members of the world famous 501st Legion and Rebel Legion will be in attendance in their screen-accurate Star Wars costumes playing games with children to win Star Wars toys. If that’s not enough, the event will feature a fantastic variety of unique films for fans of the most popular films franchises in film history. (More news on the films in the weeks to come!) “As a fan and collector myself, I want our attendees to know this is the kind of event that I would love to go to. This is an event for every fan, collector and child to enjoy.”
The ANS Sci-Fi & Comic Con will be held on May 10, 2014 from 10am to 3pm at Archbishop Neale School in La Plata, Maryland. Admission is $5 for adults, kids under ten are free. All proceeds from admission fees, vendor tables and the Silent Auction go directly to the general operating budget of Archbishop Neale School.
