NYC – Hand Drying in America Signing

bk9780307906908Ben Katchor presents his story collection Hand Drying in America in conversation with author Nicholas Dawidoff at Greenlight Bookstore on Monday, April 15, 2013 at 7:30 PM.

New York cartoonist Ben Katchor is the author of The Cardboard Valise, Julius Knipl, Real Estate Photographer: The Beauty Supply District; and other works, and was the first cartoonist to receive a MacArthur Fellowship. His new book Hand Drying in America is a collection of graphic narratives on the subjects of urban planning, product design, and architecture—a surrealist handbook for the rebuilding of society in the twenty-first century. From window-ledge pillows designed expressly for people-watching to a school of dance is based upon the choreographic motion of paying with cash, Katchor’s stories inhabit a world similar to our own—lives are defined by possessions, consumerism is a kind of spirituality—but also slightly, fabulously askew. Katchor discusses his book with bestselling author and Pulitzer Prize finalist Nicholas Dawidoff, author of The Catcher Was A Spy: The Mysterious Life of Moe Berg and The Crowd Sounds Happy, among other works; a slide show of Katchor’s art will accompany the discussion.
