    Born and raised in southern California, and trained at NYC’s School of Visual Arts, Phil Jimenez has worked in comics since 1991. He first gained recognition for his work on Tempest. His later works including pencilling stints on The Invisibles, JLA/Titans, and Planetary/Authority. Phil finished a two year run on DC Comics’ Wonder Woman, worked with Grant Morrison on New X-Men, and co-authored The DC Comics Encyclopedia. He is also the penciller on DC’s Infinite Crisis.

    The Official “Wizard Cons” mobile app has relaunched,with schedules, profiles, news, photos, maps, notifications and more in time for this weekend’s Wizard World Ohio Comic Con, Friday through Sunday in Columbus.

    A must-have for attendees to get the most out of events before, during and after each show, the first version of the free app was a big hit in Chicago, and the relaunch has even more useful features, like “Find Me,” highlighting your chosen celebrities, artists, fan communities and exhibitors on the floor map.  Priceless!

    Mark Siegel signs at Books & Books on Sunday, October 7, 2012 at 4:00pm!

    Mark Siegel’s web comic Sailor Twain: Or the Mermaid in the Hudson is being published in hardcover print this October and Siegel will be appearing in WHB for a discussion and signing of the anticipated graphic novel. The story takes place one hundred years ago when, on the foggy Hudson River, a riverboat captain rescues an injured mermaid from the waters, a notoriously reclusive author makes a public debut, and a French nobleman seeks a remedy for a curse. Their lives entwine and race to an unexpected collision, with elements of Poe, Twain, Hemingway, and Greek mythology. Siegel is also the editorial director of First Second and illustrator of To Dance: A Ballerina’s Graphic Novel.

    Character Drawing with Bob Flynn: Bob will demonstrate the importance of bringing life and movement into your drawings and characters. Drawing fast, posing characters, using a line of action, loose construction—merging energy with draftsmanship.

    Fold-Out Comics with Jon Chad: If you thought that a book is just made up of a cover, back cover, and all the business in-between, think again! There is a wide variety of folding and book construction techniques that can help create a truly unique reading experience. Jon Chad from the Center for Cartoon Studies will walk through the basics of comic-making and how to make your own unfolding minicomic!

    Digital Tools for the Comic Book Artist with David Marshall: Do you draw comics but are afraid of digital art programs? Comics veteran David Marshall shares his techniques. Digital tips include cleaning up scans, prepping for print or web, color, production and lettering. Learn comics-specific tricks for Photoshop and Illustrator.

    Drawing with NO PAIN! Injury Prevention for Cartoonists with Kriota Willberg: Many cartoonists and artists suffer from pain and injury caused by hours and hours of drawing. Are you one of them? Are you afraid that you will become one of them? This workshop describes common injuries and their causes, presents guidelines that can help prevent drawing injuries, and teaches simple exercises that can help reduce the risk of getting injured.

    Health, illness, and the physical body are major themes in many graphic novels (such as Cancer Vixen, Epileptic, and Stitches).     You have your first paid drawing gig … now what? A panel of working cartoonists discuss the challenges and rewards of drawing for a living in the fields of comics, illustration and animation. He will discuss his work and process, as well as his varied freelance career for Nickelodeon, The New Yorker, The Daily Show, and much more, in a special slideshow presentation.

    MICE pits top cartoonists against each other in a live drawing event. Utilizing theme “ingredients” KC GreenEllen Crenshaw, and Braden Lamb will each compete to win prizes for the audience and the ultimate cartooning title.

    Comics and Religion
    Religion intersects comics and comics intersect religion in a multitude of ways. Enter into a discussion with regional comics creators and scholars on the promise and the peril of these engagements. Moderator A.     How do graphic novels get made? Graphic novelist Gene Luen Yang, author of the Printz Award-winning graphic novel American Born Chinese and recently Level Up, will demystify the inner workings behind this increasingly popular narrative art form.

    Renowned for his sensitive depictions of adolescence and mixing of magical realist elements with the everyday to demonstrate the difficulties of growing up as an Asian American, Yang will discuss his own work and the emerging graphic novel medium.

    Gene Luen Yang’s works include The Eternal Smile (winner of the Eisner Award), Prime Baby (serialized in The New York Times), Level Up (now in stores), and Avatar: The Last Airbender: The Promise (from Dark Horse Comics).     Interactive Celebrity Panels, Sessions Led By Superstar Artists, Kids and Adult Costume Contests, Kids Day Sunday Highlight Special Programming, Sept. 28-30

    NEW YORK and COLUMBUS, Ohio, September 21, 2012 – Interactive Q&A discussions with all the event’s top celebrities, superstar artist sessions and costume contests for adults and children are among the highlights on the special programming schedule at Wizard World Ohio Comic Con, set for Sept. 28-30, 2012, at the Greater Columbus Convention Center. Patrick Stewart, Eliza Dushku, Val Kilmer, WWE® Superstar CM Punk® and others will answer fans’ questions in panels that are often surprising and always entertaining.

    Some of the most interesting scheduled sessions include:
