UPDATE:

According to Regina Carpinelli, CEO of Stan Lee’s Comikaze Expo , the relationship between the convention and Advanstar is that of a partnership, not an acquisition. Carpinelli and her team are “very much involved with the business end of the show.”

Original Article:

In April the Comikaze Expo got a new name, going from Comikaze Expo to “Stan Lee’s Comikaze Expo presented by POW! Entertainment”, but now it has a new owner as well. According to Folio, Advanstar Communications, a media company and event organizer, has purchased the convention for an undisclosed sum.

According to the article, the current staff will continue to handle publicity and promotion while Advanstar handles the “back end” and “business side of things.”

Their goal is “to be one of the largest pop culture conventions in the world,” and they are projecting attendance of “over 100,000 attendees by 2013.”
