About This Convention
For the 24th consecutive year, a celebration of epic proportions will take place here in the Twin Cities. The Midwest Comic Book Association (MCBA) SpringCon Comic Book Celebration is scheduled for May 19 & 20, 2012, 10AM to 5PM both days. SpringCon will take place at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds, in the Grandstand, at 1265 Snelling Avenue, Saint Paul, Minnesota 55108 SpringCon is the Midwest’s largest celebration that is all about comic books, all of the time! Focused exclusively on comic books, graphic novels and the galaxy of creators that make them a reality through a variety of means and evolving methods. SpringCon has become one of the leading comic book conventions among the creative community, dealers and especially amongst the fans. SpringCon presents a energetic, welcoming, interactive atmosphere where all aspects of the diverse worlds of graph ic literature, past, present and future,  congregate, network, debate & discuss and acquire all things related to comic books and the many sub cultures these worlds constantly generate and re-invent.  “FallCon, a traditional comic book convention with a 21st century bleeding edge, continues to benefit as a result of the regions ever growing home grown comic book creative community, a numerically exploding fan & readership base and ultimately the recent adoption of bleeding edge comic book culture by the much larger mainstream media.” said Nick Postiglione, Co-Director of the MCBA  “SpringCon truly is a unique showcase. Representing the complete spectrum of comic book creators, SpringCon like the world of comic books, continues to evolve, and has become one of the most beloved events of its type in all of America today. The world of comic books genuinely a place where there is something for everyone and everyone is welcome!” Special events, unusual activities, good old f ashioned comic book action and mayhem will rule the days. Including a comic book art & collectibles show, extensive guest creator Q&A panels, a huge comic book marketplace, portfolio reviews, costume contests and parades, how to sessions, a gigantic comic book marketplace, door prizes, giant grab bags, free creator autographs, and much more. There will be exciting exhibits by local & national publishers, art schools, fan groups, comic book retailers, and the like. All in all, over 225 mainstream, independent & alternative, local/regional and national comic book writers, artists, inkers and publishers will be in attendance! In addition, this years featured charities include the Minnesota Lupus Foundation, the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund and the Minnesota Food Shelf. All of the charity efforts will be topped off by a charity art auction on Sunday afternoon with 100% of the proceeds going to the designated charities. The MCBA SpringCon is the largest event of its type in the upper Midwest and is sponsored by the Midwest Comic Book Association an all volunteer, non-profit group dedicated to promoting the world of comic books and all of the creators who make their magic become our reality.
