The Cartoon Art Museum hosts cartoonist Denis St. John on Sunday, June 26, 2011 from 1pm to 3pm, as part of its ongoing Cartoonist-in-Residence program.  Museum visitors will be offered the chance to talk to St. John about cartooning and view his work.  This event is free and open to the public.

Denis St. John graduated from The Center for Cartoon Studies in 2008.  He then began creating his self-published horror series, Monsters & Girls, which he is still publishing today.  Rob Clough from The Comics Journal describes this series as “always unsettling in the best kind of way.”

St. John contributes to many independent anthologies, such as Funny Animals and the Werewolves! series.  In 2010 he was one of the featured artists in Creating Comics! 47 Master Artists Reveal the Technique and Inspiration Behind Their Comic Genius, published by Rockport Press.

St. John lives in Vermont and has taught comics in high schools all over the state.  This year, he was named the comics teacher for The National Endowment for the Art’s Vermont Big Read program.  In addition, he has recently become the comics editor for a magazine of high school students’ comic art and writing.
