J. Scott Campbell, one of the most popular artists in comics, has graciously accepted an invitation to Boston Comic Con 2011! One of the most requested guests for any convention, we are ecstatic to have the opportunity to bring him to meet his New England fans. Campbell first exploded on the scene in the 90s with his first book, Gen 13. His covers currently grace titles including Spider-Man, Wolverine, GI Joe, and many more! Be sure to catch his panel with fellow cover artists JG Jones, Adam Hughes, and Dave Johnson!
Joining Campbell at Boston Comic Con are local writers Christos Gage, Christopher Golden, and Tom Sniegoski, The Walking Dead’s Cliff Rathburn, pencillers Sanford Greene, Keu Cha, Leo Leibelman, Mike Lilly, and a legion of inkers including Dexter Vines, Jack Purcell, and Mark Morales. Finally we are happy to welcome back stalwart supporters Craig Rousseau, Scott Wegener, Norman Lee, and Sara Richard. Check the website for full bios!

How do you make an already exciting lineup, like the one we’ve got at the Dallas Comic Con this May 21-22, even more exciting? The guest list already includes Stan Lee (the creator of SPIDER-MAN), Leonard Nimoy (of classic STAR TREK fame), Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia herself), Laurie Holden (star of THE WALKING DEAD television series), Ethan Van Sciver (smoking hot GREEN LANTERN artist), Steve Niles (creator of 30 DAYS OF NIGHT), Bernie Wrightson (co-creator of SWAMP THING), Jimmy Palmiotti (co-creator of PAINKILLER JANE), Amanda Conner (smoking hot POWER GIRL artist), and so many more. I mean seriously, how do you top that killer list??? You add John Romita Jr. to it. The prolific artist is already a legend in the industry, and within the last year has experienced a new level of fame thanks to the big screen adaptation of his comic book KICK-ASS. John rarely makes appearances, but will be signing at the show both days, making this convention a “can’t miss” event. The looks to be the most incredible show Dallas has ever seen. More info on the Dallas Comic Con HERE: http://www.scifiexpo.com/DCC/dcc.html
We’re so very pleased to announce the addition of legendary Marvel artist John Romita Jr. to the Dallas Comic Con. The son of AMAZING SPIDER-MAN artist John Romita, his first American comic book work was (fittingly) in AMAZING SPIDER-MAN ANNUAL #11 in 1977. John became a star with his art on IRON MAN in the late 1970?s, working side by side with David Michelinie and Bob Layton. In the early 80?s, he followed in the footsteps of his father as a regular artist on AMAZING SPIDER-MAN, where he co-created Hobgoblin. Following his Spidey work, Jr. moved over to UNCANNY X-MEN, where he turned in three years of incredible issues working with X-writer extraordinaire Chris Claremont. Moving into the 90?s, Romita began a healthy run on DAREDEVIL, where he helped co-create Typhoid Mary, and was masterfully inked by Al Williamson. His other notable work includes DAREDEVIL: THE MAN WITHOUT FEAR (written by Frank Miller), PUNISHER: WAR ZONE, the original CABLE mini-series, THE MIGHTY THOR, a return to IRON MAN, WOLVERINE, BLACK PANTHER, THE SENTRY, WORLD WAR HULK and THE ETERNALS (where he collaborated with Neil Gaiman). He’s also turned in creator-owned projects like GRAY AREA and the wildly popular KICK-ASS (which he co-created with Mark Millar). His current project is THE AVENGERS, just in time for the gigantic Marvel film. Known by many in the industry as JRJR, we are honored to host a rare appearance of the popular creator, an effort that has been in the works for years… some things are worth the wait.

Lee Weeks has been creating comics or over two decades for all the major companies; on such Marvel titles as Daredevil, Captain America, Gambit, The Incredible Hulk, and Spider-Man: Death and Destiny (written by Lee, as well), while his art for DC’s Batman Chronicles: The Gauntlet is among the most finely crafted in the character’s history. He recently illustrated the Juggernaut storyline in Amazing Spider-man and is currently writing and drawing a Daredevil project. Lee was the subject of Tomorrows Publishing’s “Modern Masters: volume 17: Lee Weeks” (available at Amazon.com), which explores his life, career, and faith. Lee resides in Pennsylvania with his wife and two daughters.
Rumor has it he also knows a few good card tricks. Stop by and ask him.
I was shocked and saddened to hear that writer Dwayne McDuffie has died, according to a report at Comic Book Resources. Our condolences to his friends and family.
I never had the opportunity to meet Dwayne in person but was a Milestone Comics fan from the start with Static and Icon my absolute favorite titles being published at the time.
The biography on his website reads:
Dwayne McDuffie is best known as the co-founder and creator of Milestone Media. He is a Story Editor on the KIDS WB’s Emmy Award-winning animated series STATIC SHOCK, which he co-created. He is also a Producer and Story Editor on Cartoon Network’s JUSTICE LEAGUE. He is Editor-In-Chief of Milestone Media’s award-winning line of comic books, managing an editorial operation which boasted the best on-time delivery record in the industry for nearly four years running and has also worked as an editor for Marvel Comics and Harvey Entertainment. As a writer, Dwayne has created or co-created more than a dozen series, including DAMAGE CONTROL, DEATHLOK II, ICON, STATIC, XOMBI, THE ROAD TO HELL and HARDWARE. He has written stories for dozens of other comics, including, SPIDER-MAN, BATMAN: LEGENDS OF THE DARK KNIGHT, THE TICK, CAPTAIN MARVEL, AVENGERS SPOTLIGHT, BACK TO THE FUTURE, HELLRAISER, ULTRAMAN, (The Artist Formerly Known As) PRINCE and X-O MANOWAR.
Dwayne won the 2003 HUMANITAS PRIZE for “Jimmy,” a STATIC SHOCK script about gun violence in schools. He has been nominated for two EMMY AWARDS for the TV series STATIC SHOCK, a WRITERS GUILD AWARD for the TV series JUSTICE LEAGUE and three EISNER AWARDS for his work in comic books. His comic book work has won eleven PARENTS’ CHOICE AWARDS, six “Best Editor” awards, and a GOLDEN APPLE AWARD for his “use of popular art to promote and enhance human dignity.”
Dwayne was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan and attended The Roeper School. Before entering comics, he studied in undergraduate and graduate programs at The University of Michigan, then attended film school at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. He also co-hosted a radio comedy program, while moonlighting pseudonymously as a freelance writer for stand-up comedians and late-night television comedy programs. He has written scripts for an animated feature, episodes of BEN 10: ALIEN FORCE, STATIC SHOCK!, JUSTICE LEAGUE, WHAT’S NEW, SCOOBY-DOO? and TEEN TITANS.
