Comments Off on CA – Hercules Signing
Legendary Iron Man artist BOB LAYTON appears at Metropolis on JUNE 3 (that’s next THURSDAY!), which is also new releases day for next week due to the Memorial Day holiday! This is a rare in-store appearance for Bob who will be there in support of his new Marvel Mini-Series, Hercules: Twilight of a God.
He’ll sign your books for you, but due to many issues (the worst of which is ebay), Bob does charge for sketches, so if you want one, be sure to bring some scratch with you ($50 for a head shot, $100 full body – for a nice, commissioned piece of original art this is a BARGAIN!).
Bob Layton appears from 6pm until 8pm, so don’t miss out on this rare opportunity to meet the man that Wizard (and many others) has dubbed “the definitive Iron Man artist.”

Comments Off on NYC – Hero Initiative Benefit
Steve Dillon visits New York City’s Forbidden Planet on behalf of Hero Initiative
British artist Steve Dillon, well- known for his work on Preacher, Punisher, and Wolverine: Origins, visits Forbidden Planet in New York City on June 8th to benefit Hero Initiative, the non-profit organization helping comic creators in need.
The event takes place:
Tuesday, June 8, 5 p.m.
Forbidden Planet New York
840 Broadway, New York, NY 10003
Dillon will sign, sketch and have original art for sale, all to benefit Hero Initiative. Admission to the event is $20, payable at Forbidden Planet. Attendees can bring five of their own items to be signed. Dillon will also draw five-minute sketches at $25, one per customer, so get in line early! In addition, the artist will bring 10 pieces of original Punisher and Wolverine art that will be raffled off. Only 10 tickets will be sold at $100 each, so each of 10 winners is guaranteed to walk away with an original Steve Dillon masterpiece. Don’t miss out on this incredible opportunity to meet Steve himself and own an amazing piece of art, all the while supporting Hero Initiative, an amazing cause in the comic industry!
“I’m always happy to do signing events for Hero Initiative as I really believe in the cause. It should be a great time for everyone, so please come out.” said Dillon.
“Forbidden Planet is very proud to be hosting Steve—one of our favorite artists—in service of The Hero Initiative,” said Forbidden Planet. “The Initiative is one of the most noble and worthy causes we can think of, and this should be a really fun night. Refreshments will be served and Steve’s fantastic. We can’t wait!”
About The Hero Initiative:
The Hero Initiative is the first-ever federally chartered not-for-profit corporation dedicated strictly to helping comic book creators in need. Hero creates a financial safety net for yesterday’s creators who may need emergency medical aid, financial support for essentials of life, and an avenue back into paying work. It’s a chance for all of us to give back something to the people who have given us so much enjoyment.
Since its inception, The Hero Initiative has had the good fortune to grant over $400,000 to the comic book veterans who have paved the way for those in the industry today. For more information, visit their website or call 626-676-6354.

Posted by Allison Sohn: Up for auction is the opportunity to get an original, one of a kind convention sketch from comic artist Adam Hughes. See the link below to bid.
Expires on: May 31, 201019:07:35 PDT
As many collectors and fans know, Adam is renowned for his cover art on such books as Catwoman and Wonder Woman, as well as limited run covers for such titles as Power Girl, the Legion of Super Heroes, Joss Whedon’s Serenity, and assorted Star Wars projects, to name but a few. His designs for Sideshow Collectibles Marvel Comiquette Statues as well as DC Direct’s Women of the DCU busts and Covergirls statue series are much sought after and enjoyed. This auction is YOUR chance to have one of Adam’s pieces added to your collection, and not just any piece. The artwork you win will be a fully rendered sketch of the character of your choice. The images attached to this auction are an example of the quality of work that the winner can expect to receive.
To participate in this auction, you must meet the following criteria: the artwork must be collected from Adam in person by the winner at the upcoming Heroes Con in Charlotte, North Carolina. The dates of the convention are June 4th to the 6th. You must be an attendee at the show, and be able to provide photo ID proving you are the same individual that won this auction. No one else will be allowed to pick up this artwork; so please if you do not plan on being at the Heroes Con, do not bid. We cannot make exceptions. You must be able to pay in full via paypal at the close of this auction or make arrangements to pay in cash at the opening of the show. Failure to do so will result in a second chance offer being sent out to the next highest bidder.
The following restrictions will also apply to this auction: Your request may be of a single character of your choosing. Adam reserves the right to add any complimentary characters that he may feel completes the piece of artwork. The artwork will be completed in gray-scale marker as all of Adam’s convention sketches are, with painted highlights added as Adam deems it necessary. The examples included with this auction may look like color was used; Adam achieved this effect using a combination or warm and cool gray tones markers. The artwork will be 11 by 14 inches, and all materials used are archival in quality. No lewd requests will be accepted, nor any content deemed to be offensive. If you ask for something that is either of these, we will politely ask you for a second choice for the subject of your sketch.
Your artwork will be completed at Heroes Con, on the first day of the show (if Adam is able- Friday is a half day and seems to end very quickly!), unless other arrangements are made. For example; if you only plan on attending on Sunday, and would like to watch your sketch being worked on, we can move your piece to the first sketch of Sunday. Something to keep in mind about Heroes Con: they have an art auction of their own. Adam will likely spend most of Saturday trying to complete a piece of art for the Heroes Con auction, which may cut back significantly on the number of sketches he will be able to complete during the show. So this auction may be one of only a few drawings he will be able to get done that weekend. Adam or myself will be in touch with you prior to the convention to talk about your sketch request. You can pick up your artwork from our table at any time during the weekend. However, if you neglect to collect your sketch, you will forfeit it. We cannot be responsible for shipping unclaimed artwork at the end of the show, and as stated earlier, the art MUST be picked up by the auction winner; no substitutions will be allowed.
Thank you for your participation in this auction. I know many people would like us to do this sort of thing for other shows, and even simply to provide Adam’s fans with a source for sketches outside of conventions. This is something we will consider in the coming months. But for now, we are looking forward to the trip to Charlotte, and Heroes Con, and wish everyone the best of luck in the auction!
