Boston Comic Con is working diligently to bring the very best comic book show to New England fans. Previously announced guests include Jim Lee, Mike Mignola, Bill Sienkiewicz, Christopher Golden, Craig Rousseau, Eric Powell, Jim Mahfood, Jim Starlin, Joe Quinones, Skottie Young, and Steve Rude. Tell your friends!!
Meet our new guests!
JOE JUSKO is one of the most well-recognized painters in the comic book industry. His career began at age 17 with a cover to Heavy Metal magazine which led to many more covers including a long run painting the covers of Savage Sword of Conan. Joe has worked for almost every major comic book publisher, producing hundreds of images for both covers and interiors, and his Marvel Masterpieces Trading Card series in the early 90s is credited with starting the trading card collecting boom. His recent work includes a fully painted Tomb Raider graphic novel, which won a Certificate of Merit from the prestigious Society of Illustrators.
MICHAEL GOLDEN’s realistic style and dynamic designs have influenced a generation of artists who grew up idolizing his work on Micronauts, G.I. Joe, Dr. Strange, The ‘Nam, Howard the Duck and more. He has also worked extensively in commercial illustration and animation. After a long hiatus from comic books, Michael has returned to the industry to great acclaim from fans and peers alike. The Boston Comic Con is excited to bring such an iconic artist to New England.
TOM SNIEGOSKI is a novelist and comic book scripter who has worked for every major company in the comic book industry. He has written tales featuring such characters as Hellboy, Batman, Wolverine, Devil Dinosaur, and the Punisher. His comic book work also includes Stupid, Stupid Rat Tails, a prequel miniseries to the international hit, Bone. Tom has collaborated several times with fellow Boston Comic Con guests Mike Mignola, Christopher Golden, and Eric Powell.
MARK CHIARELLO is a graduate of Pratt Institute and as a painter worked on Batman/Houdini, countless covers for both Marvel and DC, and was the original colorist for Mike Mignola’s Hellboy. After becoming the Art Director of DC Comics, he edited the high profile and critically acclaimed series Batman: Black & White, Solo, and this past summer’s Wednesday Comics. Mark has also published a book of portraits of baseball players form the Negro Leagues. Boston Comic Con is honored to have him as guest and happy to announce that he will conduct a limited number of portfolio reviews. This is a rare opportunity for artists to show their work to the man in charge of the look of the DC Universe.
The Boston Comic Con is in its fourth year of producing independent comic book shows and is committed to bringing the biggest and best comic book show to New England. The Boston Comic Con hosts over 22,000 square feet of vendors selling comic books, toys, posters, and other pop culture memorabilia. The event will be held Saturday April 10th and Sunday April 11th at the Westin Waterfront, 425 Summer Street, Boston, MA from 10am to 5pm. Admission is $15 each day. Wizard World Comic Con continues Tour Expansion
New York, NY (November 20, 2009) – Gareb Shamus, CEO of New York based Wizard Entertainment, announces today that he has purchased New England Comic Con, in a move to further expand the Wizard World Comic Con tour.
“We’ve known Larry for many years, and his exceptional 35-year old New England Comic Con gets us into Boston in a big way. New England has a long legacy of cartoons and comics embedded in their history, making the fans there very appreciative of comics’ impact on society and pop culture,” said Shamus. “I’m excited to bring these discerning fans an even better Con experience and everything they expect from a Wizard run show.”
Larry Harrison, owner of Harrison’s Comics & Collectibles, and Jimmy Tournas, the former owners of New England Comic Con, will be intimately involved in the new show production to ensure fan favorite traditions are maintained.
“Working with Gareb is an awesome experience. The folks at Wizard World have a great sense of how to grow the show in a way that I’ve always wanted to see it flourish. This should be the best comic con the city of Boston has ever seen,” said Harrison.
The New England Comic Con acquisition is the first of several Comic Con tour expansion announcements expected in the weeks ahead.
“We bring together more fans, in more cities than anyone, to celebrate their passion for pop-culture. We’ve had such a strong positive fan and industry reaction to our new show launches that expanding the tour just made sense,” said Shamus.
New England Comic Con venue and dates will be announced soon.

THE HERO INITIATIVE USES WIZARD WORLD COMIC CON TO INCREASE INDUSTRY SUPPORT
The Hero Initiative will be on site for Toronto Comic Con & Chicago Comic Con
New York, NY (November 19, 2009) – The Hero Initiative and Wizard World Comic Con will partner in 2010 to maximize the reach to fans for this important comic industry charity organization, Gareb Shamus, CEO of New York-based Wizard Entertainment and producer of Wizard World Comic Con tour, announces today.
“It’s important to support The Hero Initiative since they support so many of the folks in our industry. Without this industry support many artists wouldn’t be able to keep producing the wonderful work we love,” said Shamus.
The Hero Initiative will have a booth at Toronto Comic Con and Chicago Comic Con in 2010 to raise awareness among fans of the importance of their continued industry support. They will also invite special comic book guests to sign at their booth to help increase donations for the organization and art auctions will be part of convention programming with proceeds going to The Hero Initiative.
“Being on location at Wizard World Comic Con events helps us reach many fans when they are in a place to understand their role in the industry, and how if you love something, you have the power and the obligation to support it, like our organization does,” said Christina Zietsma, Associate Development Director at The Hero Initiative. “Partnering with Wizard World on a larger scale, outside of only the convention appearances, is strategic move by the organization to maximize awareness and impact for The Hero Initiative.”
More programming and special guest details for The Hero Initiative at Wizard World Comic Con events will be announced soon.
The Hero Initiative is also selling tickets for all Wizard World 2010 Comic Con events with part of the proceeds going back to the charity.
